FILM: Just finished shooting a short called “Loco” written and directed by the very talented Eddie Mujica. Loco is a surreal, dark comedy about mental health and its stigma in the Latine community. Mujica is a Cuban-American writer, director, and Emmy-winning producer from Hialeah, Florida. His short, Dreamer, was an Imagen Award finalist, while Uno Por Uno: The Cuban Missile Crisis won awards at HBO’s New York Latino Film Festival and Cine Sony’s New Voices. Loco is a Shore Scripts Short Film Fund Grand Prize Winner. I had a great time with an amazing cast, which included my wife, Adriana Sevan. First time we get to play husband and wife in a movie. Muchas gracias, Eddie. Thank you for making it so much fun and a joy to go to play.
Also late in 2024, another short came out with its premiere in Los Angeles. “Thump” was written and directed by first time director, Alexah Acuña. I was blessed to play the great “Walter Mercado”ish where I got to sing and speak about love and passion and share a lot of “heart” in beautifully orchestrated “horoscopes.” Thank you Alexah.
THEATER: Last year I had the privilege of being part of a beautiful production of The Body’s Midnight by Tira Palmquist, directed by Jessica Kubzansky, at the Boston Court Pasadena, a co-production with IAMA Theatre Company. The play explored the theme of “What does it mean to get lost in America?” Anne and David are set to find out as they embark on the perfect American road trip. They have a map, an impressive list of sights to see, and an itinerary that should put them in St. Paul just in time for the birth of their first grandchild. But soon their perfect plan is derailed by a troubling diagnosis and the beautiful impermanence of the world around them. As Anne and David veer off of their intended path, they are forced to grapple with the unavoidably messy and breathtaking journey of their lives. It was a gorgeous production with Keliher Walsh, Sonal Shah and Ryan Garcia, as my lovely and talented theatrical family. Much gratitude to them, Tira, Jessica and everyone at Boston Court Pasadena and IAMA Theatre Company.
